Spring is almost here and our family could not be more excited! After being cooped up indoors for months, the temperature is finally rising and we’ll be able to spend more of our time outdoors. One of our favorite activities to do together is head outside for a picnic. Sometimes we head to a local park and have a picnic there, other times we’ll just have a cookout at our own house (or the home of friends or family).

No matter where we decide to eat, the kids are always thrilled when we whip up Dirt Pudding. This dessert is quick, easy to fix, and no-bake! It’s perfect even for the youngest bakers. Even my 21-month-old son was able to help with portions of this recipe, much to his delight.

One of the ingredients I use in this recipe is Tastefully Simple’s Creamy Caramel Sauce. Have you ever tried Tastefully Simple foods? I was first introduced to this yummy food brand over 10 years ago when I had the opportunity to have a slice of Tastefully Simple’s Beer Bread. It was some of the best bread I’ve ever eaten (and certainly the best beer bread), and ever since then, I’ve been a big fan of Tastefully Simple.

About Tastefully Simple

Tastefully Simple was founded in 1995 by Jill Blashack Strahan. Jill believed knew that people want crazy delicious food that’s insanely easy to prepare. We’re all busy right?! Tastefully Simple is headquartered in central Minnesota where Jill grew up.

Though Tastefully Simple is best known for their top-selling Bountiful Beer Bread Mix, Tastefully Simple’s product line includes signature seasonings, sauces and baking mixes, all prepared by adding two additional ingredients or less. How cool is that?!

Tastefully Simple EatWell products, which constitute 85% of their line, are clean-label foods that contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives!

Tastefully Simple started as a party plan company, and this model continues to be most popular for the brand today. As an entrepreneurial company, Tastefully Simple has always championed the opportunity for individuals – especially women – to become independent business owners as Tastefully Simple consultants. Consultants earn sales commissions up to 40% and additional leadership income based on the sales of their teams.

Get Together Kit

While you can still purchase your favorite Tastefully Simple products from your favorite independent consultant, did you know that you can also purchase products from Tastefully Simple online through their website?

You can purchase individual products but you can also purchase kits. They have dinner kits (like a 5-meal kit, a 10-meal kit, etc.) and they also have other specialty kits, like the Get Together Kit which I recently received.

No-Bake Dirt Pudding Recipe (15)

The Get Together Kit contains 8 Tastefully Simple products to help you create 6 different recipes that are perfect for get-togethers. The recipes are:

  • Classy Chocolate Caramel Truffle
  • Open-Faced Egg Rolls
  • Baked Artichoke and Spinach Warm Dip
  • Smoky Bacon BBQ Meatballs
  • Sweet Pepper Cream Cheese
  • Bountiful Beer Bread with Spinach and Herb Dip

All you have to do is add a few simple ingredients to finish making the item. For example, to make the Bountiful Beer Bread, you’ll just need to add your own beer and butter then bake. That’s it! (It’s SO SO good too!)

Did I mention the kit includes a full-color booklet with all of the recipes you can create? If you want to make the entire kit for a get-together, there is even a grocery list included for your convenience, so you’ll have everything you need to make all of the recipes.

Just because this kit comes with a selection of yummy recipes, it doesn’t mean you have to use the included products to just create the recipes in the booklet. You can use these supplies to create all kinds of tasty foods, just like I do with the creamy caramel sauce to make our dirt pudding cake recipe.

If you’ve never tried Tastefully Simple before, now is the time! The Get Together Kit makes a great introduction to the brand’s amazing options and I highly recommend it. Now, excuse me while I go fix myself some Bountiful Beer Bread!

The Best Dirt Pudding Recipe

Yield: 12 servings

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

A fun, delicious no-bake recipes that kids will love, Dirt Pudding is quick and easy to fix and always a crowd pleaser!

Ingredients

  • 1 container of frozen whipped topping (8 ounces) thawed
  • 1 package of instant chocolate pudding (5.9 oz box)
  • 1 Package of chocolate sandwich cookies (14.3 oz)
  • 5.5 ounces of Tastefully Simple Creamy Caramel Sauce (this is 1/2 of the jar)
  • 1 Package of gummy worms and/or other gummy insects ( 8 oz)
  • 2 Cups of Milk (I use whole milk)

Instructions

    1. Start by pulling the chocolate sandwich cookies apart and scrapping the cream out of the middle. I let the kids do this job and they had so much fun. I find that using the flat end of a butter knife makes it easy to scrape the cream off of the cookies.
    2. Place the cookies in a zippered storage bag and crush with a rolling pin. Alternately, you can also put the cookies into a food processor and tap it a few times until you have lots of crumbs.
    3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk for about 2 minutes or until completely mixed together.
    4. Whisk in thawed whipped topping.Don't over mix. I mix just enough to have everything blended together and no white remaining.
    5. In an ungreased 13x9 cake pan, spread the pudding mixture across the bottom.
    6. Drizzle Tastefully Simple Creamy Caramel Sauce across the pudding.Don't worry if you have a few big chunks drop as you are spreading it. After you have drizzled half of the container over the pudding, use a spatula to spread it evenly across the top of the pudding mixture.
    7. Spread 3/4 of the crushed cookies over caramel.
    8. Spread gummy worms and/or insects over the cookie crumbs. This is always my kids' favorite part so I let them do it.
    9. Spread the remainder of the cookie crumbs over the gummy insects. This helps to give the illusion of the bugs coming out of the ground.
    10. Chill in the refrigerator for an hour or until ready to serve.

Notes

Some Fun Additions

If you'd like to add some variety to your Dirt Pudding, consider the following:

  • Raisins or Craisins for additional bugs.
  • Candy rocks
  • Candy grass
  • Gummy frogs, gummy spiders, or gummy snakes

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

Can You Add Cream Cheese?

Some people want to know about adding cream cheese to this recipe. You absolutely can add 8 ounces of thawed cream cheese. I find that adding the cream cheese lightens the brown color, so I tend to omit that. However, if you'd like this recipe to have a slightly less sweet taste, adding in the cream cheese is a good addition. Just keep in mind that your dirt will be lighter colored.

Do You Have to Use Tastefully Simple Creamy Caramel Sauce?

Obviously you can substitute this caramel sauce for another brand if necessary, however, I have to say that this caramel sauce it not only my favorite in terms of taste, it's also the easiest to spread. Some caramel sauce is very, very thick and difficult to work with, but Tastefully Simple Creamy Caramel Sauce is easy to stir and will make spreading it evenly over the pudding base easy.

Where Do You Find Gummy Insects?

Most of us can find worms at the grocery store, but finding other insects isn't always easy. Annie's makes fruit snacks that are "Bees, Bugs, and Butterflies". I've also found insect gummies at some specialty markets in our area.

Don't worry though, if you can't find a variety of gummy insects, kids love it with just gummy worms too!

Serving More People?

You can double the milk, pudding, and frozen whipped topping for this recipe to make the "wet" mud portion thicker and therefore serve more people. This is what I do if I'm taking the dish to a pot-luck. It should still fit in a 13x9 baking dish and you won't need to add extra cookies or gummies.
