Content creators Dan Lawrence and Lucy Claire have announced that they have separated, with their apparent split said to have come just weeks after their wedding.
The pair - known as Dan & Lucy on social media - have more than 900,000 followers on their joint TikTok account alone. They have amassed 28 million likes on the platform by posting content about their lives, including prank videos.
Dan, 40, and Lucy, 26, are understood to have got married on September 6 last year. Their followers have now been told that they separated just weeks later, with it suggested that Lucy ended the relationship on or around November 15.
The former couple - who are parents to daughter Harper, three - have discussed their apparent split in posts on social media this week. Dan appeared to make the announcement, with Lucy having since shared her thoughts with their fans.
Dan announced that they had separated in a video that was shared just days ago. It's been posted on TikTok and their Facebook page, where they have 400,000 followers. He commented in the video: "Me and Lucy are over. She's ended it. She's not happy and I'm gonna lose my little girl."
He continued: "My entire life is just falling apart. We've been married... we've not even had the wedding through [...] she's not in love with me anymore." Dan said that "life takes a toll," adding that social media and pranking "all takes a toll".
Dan went on: "I don't know what to do. Like I need to be strong for Harper, but... I just lost my wife." Discussing the prospect of her moving on, he suggested he'll have to "stand by and watch" when she "meets someone".
"I just wanted to be a family [...] I tried so hard to make her happy. I don't know why I'm recording this. Hopefully so I can look back in a year and go 'best thing that ever happened to you' but it won't be, it's the worst thing," he commented.
The content creator suggested to followers that he was recording the video on November 15. Dan said that they had "commitments" in the future which would need them to "pretend to be all f***ing happy, a happy family".
He continued: "I'm so f***ing lost. How do people even cope? How do you cope with this?" He concluded by saying: "I know there's worse things in the world but right now it just doesn't feel like it."
Lucy has since posted a statement on platforms including Instagram, writing this week: "Over the last few days I have been inundated with messages - from our friends, our family and our followers - a lot of whom sadly had to find out via the internet that Dan & I separated in November."
She continued: "While Dan & I have been privately grieving for some time, I understand for many that the news comes as a shock. To our friends & family who I did not get the opportunity to tell personally, I am truly sorry."
She shared with their followers: "By signing up to live a part of my life online, I understand I am opening myself up to judgements and perceptions. Although it might not have been immediately obvious from the limited social media posts since November, both Dan & I have been mourning and processing, as we are understandably devastated by the breakdown of our marriage. Our focus throughout this extremely difficult time has been ensuring that we are doing the best we can for our daughter."
The content creator then noted: "I think it's important to remember that online narratives don't always capture the full complexity of personal situations. Our separation involves intricacies that go beyond what has been shared online."
She further commented: "No one intends to marry only to separate shortly after; the great sadness is for Harper that we unfortunately couldn't make it work. Given the above, it was of course a decision made through great heartache, and by no means one that was taken lightly."
Lucy added: "Going forward, our utmost focus is Harper and ensuring that she has the best possible relationship with both Dan & myself." She described Dan as an "incredible father" and said she will "always care very deeply" for him.
She continued: "I have had conversations at length with Dan, and out of mutual respect for the wellbeing and protection of ourselves and Harper (especially as she may one day see all of this), I have asked him to consider keeping future discussions surrounding our separation private."
She concluded the statement with a message to their followers, urging: "Please think compassionately before reacting. This isn't a case of picking sides, the only thing I would ever ask of you is to treat both of us with kindness & respect as we navigate this process and ensure we are the best parents we can be. Above all else, please… #BeKind."
A spokesperson for Dan and Lucy told the Mirror: "As both Dan and Lucy have already expressed their sentiments through their social media channels, we would like to reiterate the importance of respecting their privacy and the sensitivity of the situation, especially considering the well-being of their daughter, Harper.
"We understand the public's interest in their lives, but we firmly believe that this is a matter that should remain private. We appreciate your understanding and request that any further speculation or commentary on their personal lives be approached with kindness and respect for their family's privacy."
